Spherey

It's really worrying admitting one's music tastes. I am quite an 80's girl especially the mid 80's. Big hair (dodgy perm), big shirts, really bad taste fashion..... Ugh (shuddering!!!!)Anyway, enough reminiscing.

I have also finished one item of knitting!!! I have so many WIPs which need a heck of a lot of focus which I just can't seem to find. Anyway, here's Spherey from Jess Hutch's book. I made him for some friends who are expecting their first baby and I''ll be seeing them this weekend. Where you might ask? IN NEW YORK!!!!! Yup, Kate and I are off to NYC for a weekend of yarn shopping and shopping and eating. We've shortlisted 6 yarn stores in our "must visit" list. So if anyone needs anything (yarn , etc from NYC) let drop me a note and I'm sure I'll be happy to shop for you too.

Pattern - Spherey from Jess Hutch's booklet
Yarn - GGH Samoa (very like Rowan's All Season Cotton)
I have also managed to start something else in the last 2 nights. I've been hankering to start the Mitre Square blanket from Mason Dixon Knitting So while hubby is away in Hong Kong for business for 10 days, I dragged out 30 odd balls of GGH Samoa and Rowan ASC and cast on. 2 nights and 3 squares later, I am hooked. I love deciding colour choices and seeing how it's turning out. Love it. Love it. (I know, I know, it might just end up on the BIG WIP pile, we'll see. Focus!)

Music in 1989

I saw this meme on Ruth’s blog and thought it was a great idea to do it as well. (if I can figure out how to strike things out!)
So you take the top 50 records from the year you were 18 from this
website, post the list and then -
bold the ones you liked,
strike the ones you disliked
and italicize the ones you knew but didn’t particularly like or dislike.
The ones you don’t know will still be in normal text.

I remember 1989 very well. I was going through a long torturous on-off long distance relationship with my first love (at the start of the year), taking my A-levels (in the middle of the year) and coming over to the UK for the first time for my University years and meeting my husband (towards the end of the year). Gosh, that was so long ago........

Here's my 50 songs.

RIDE ON TIME Black Box - Reminds me of my first taste of clubs in the UK

WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING Kylie Minogue. I don't remember this song either. I probably didn't like it.

THIS TIME I KNOW IT'S FOR REAL Donna Summer

DON'T KNOW MUCH Linda Ronstadt featuring Aaron Neville - I always associate this song with meeting my husband, lots of slow dancing and snogging! A lot of happy memories!

It's a ...........

GIRL!!! We're having another girl. (The hospital won't guarantee it but I'm pretty sure!!) 2 weeks ago, I told hubby that I had a feeling that baby's a girl. He didn't want to believe me but here we are. Aidan and hubby were hoping for a boy and Keira wanted a girl. I'm hoping she's not going to be as headstrong and stubborn as Keira. She can be such a little ....... What's funny is that my Mum says she's exactly like me as a child. I guess that's karma.

Here's a picture of the little wriggler....... and she's waving to her mum's blogging friends.
I know I've been saying that my bump is huge. So I thought I'd show you guys the evidence. Remember this is only week 21. There's plenty more growing to go.

Enough about bumps and babies. As this is a predominantly knitting blog, I thought I'd better show some pictures of knitting. I finished a pair of socks for hubby. The details are as follows:

Yarn - Sweet Georgia Demon Socks in Rusted
Needle size - 3.5mm
Pattern - Thuja from Knitty Winter 2005
My thoughts - I love the yarn. It really does go faster than the normal sock weight yarn. I love the colours - steely grey, charcoal grey and chocolately brown. It really looks good together. The pattern is also very simple and effective and quite masculine. Hubby loves the socks, which is great.

I am a bad blogger

Many apologies for the lack of blogging in the recent weeks. Firstly, there was only intermitent , expensive internet connection at the hotel in Austria. (Also, I had to use a German keyboard which meant everything took twice as long to type. The keys are not where I expected them to be!!!)

BTW - Austria was lovely. We were in a ski resort near Salzburg. I even managed to find 3 yarn shops. More about that later.

Secondly, I got a call from our builder who decided to move up the renovations from April/May to next week. We are having the top floor redesigned to accomodate the new arrival. We need the room!! Anyway, one of the rooms upstairs is currently the "dump" room, ie throw things in and wait for dust to gather. This has been happening for the last 10.5 years. I now have less than 1 week to clear out 10 years of mess. ARRGGHHHH! What's worse, this is the main room where I have been hiding my HUGE stash of yarn and books. Where am I going to hide 300 balls of yarn??? Most of my hiding spaces already contain yarn. Double ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!

Thirdly, clearing out junk has meant that I'm moving things from the second floor into the ground floor. Because I'm pregnant, I can't carry too much. So this has meant numerous trips up and down the steps. I am knackered! In fact, I can barely keep my eyes open at the moment. I'll have a more coherent and cheery post soon.

I'm off....

to the land of Sound of Music. "The hills are alive......."

Hubby and I are off to our skiing/knitting holiday before sprog number 3 arrives. I'm really looking forward to spending some quality time together. The other sprogs have been farmed off to grandparents. Yay!!

So before I go, I thought I'd show you some progress on the knitting front. I was "commissioned" by a friend to knit a baby blanket for her goddaughter. Here's what I've got so far....It's turning out a bit on the small side 24" square. I think I might have to add more borders. I'm going to have to knit for lots of babies this summer. A really good friend is having her first baby in early August (2 days after ours is due!) And another friend is having twin boys in June. Must get cracking with the knitting!!!
