What can I do??

To all the experienced knitters out there, I have a small plea for help. What can I do to a top that is looking rather shapeless. I finished my Prairie Tunic which was a fairly easy knit. The problem I have is that it has no waist shaping whatsoever. So I look like I have a big tummy on me. How can I add some shaping to the waist? Can I sew in some shaping? I'm not sure I want to rip out the whole thing. What can I do???

Don't quote me on this as I'm not very proficient at sewing. Could you add darts to it in any way? If this makes too much bulk, as long as it is sewn well you could cut out the excess from the inside and it would hold in a similar way that steeks work. It's worth hanging on to see if anyone has a better suggestion as that was the first thing to cross my mind.

Just my two cents' worth but I think it looks good! Besides I'd like to see something that makes you look like you've got a tummy...

But off the top of my head I agree with Rain only try instead of a straight seam down the side try maybe sewing up a few of the 'holes' in the areas you want shaped? I'll email or talk to you later if you're interested in the technique I was thinking of. After all someone who knows what they're doing might have a better idea...:)

It is so beautiful. Be happy with it just as it is. I adore it. I think you look wonderful in it. What's not to like?

I made the same top and I suggest that you either sew up the sides, adding some shaping as you sew, plan on wearing it over a t-shirt and make the straps long enough that the top hits you lower down on your hips, or use a 'belt' as suggested in the pattern. Good luck, it looks adorable! A low-slung leather belt w/ jeans might just make this top fit you how you like!
